Invitation for Selection to Camp Rising Sun Europe 2009
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to select a girl at the age of 15, who has yet to turn 16 years of age upon arrival at camp, from your country to attend the European Camp Rising Sun in the summer of 2009. We have been thankful for all your help and cooperation in previous years, and hope that you will be able to send another splendid participant for this upcoming season.
Just recently, financing for the upcoming season has been assured. The goal was reached through an enormous effort by some alumni who have attended Camp Rising Sun in USA. Thanks to their hard work and belief in this idea of leadership education on a democratic basis, sufficient pledges have been made by alumni and friends of CRS from around the world. Many of you who receive this letter are among the sponsors and we want to thank you deeply. And to all of you, why don’t you come and visit the camp when it is running so you can get your own idea of what we are doing? To make CRS/Europe a reality in 2009 became an even higher priority when the camps in USA had to cancel the coming season due to severe financial losses. We are delighted that so many are willing to support the idea of a summer camp for the bettering of democratic leadership, just as it was started in 1930.
Description of the Program
The summer camp is based in Stendis (Holstebro), Denmark. The goal of the Program is to promote international understanding across barriers of nationality, race and religion and to promote cooperation on a humanitarian and democratic basis by targeting resourceful young people (not necessarily from resourceful backgrounds) who hold great potential, and who are best equipped to use their summer experience. It is our hope that they will return as stronger individuals, who may become role models and benefit their home communities.
Camp Rising Sun creates an environment in which participants obtain a first hand experience through living eight weeks within a way of life which seeks to foster intercultural communication and develop democratic, social and cultural values through the study and discussion of important existential issues, and through collaboration with projects for the common good of their community.
